Off to a Good StartA Poem by CourtneyLies disguised in white, the costume of the night. Angelic upon first sight, but look again and you just might, see through the blinding white.
Those who deceive are near, Painted on smiles and false cheer, but soon midnight will bring a new year. As cracks in the paint begin to appear, you wonder why you are still here.
Realization as the buzz wears away, that tomorrow is not just another day. It's a chance to start the right way. Out come the bottles of champagne, you take a step towards the doorway.
The metallic paper cone takes a dive, crushed as the last guests arrive. As the haze fades, I open my eyes, and just as the party becomes alive, I slam the door behind me at 11:45.
