Lines

Lines

A Poem by Kristina Yoder

The lines that connect
us cannot be ignored
or erased-

They cause cracks
on our exteriors
from trying to mask
what they illuminate

Breaking our attempts to
pretend that
nothing has shifted,
that what was started
has dissipated, lifted

When all it can
do is begin
to shed light
on what's
real and true-
what lingers after you,
that unmistakable hue
of black and blue

Lines
that keep going
the same direction-
never crossing,
never cross-
apart but connected
intact, but lost.

Interesting concept. "Mistakable hue of black and blue", i really like the wording here. Then the ending of never crossing or cross apart. Impactful and curious. Though the lines seem to indicate directness and simplicity- the conclusion is anything but....
