Shooting Stars

contest-had to use the first word for each line, "I am a man in love with the setting stars." Hope you enjoy.

"I am a man in love with the setting stars"

 

 

 

I gaze into the night sky and I
   am in awe.
A single soul, yet somehow significant

man I am.
In less than a century, I shall not be here. 
         Love shall thrive like a strong tree,   
       with tiny pink buds bearing posterity's birth cries.  
    The future generation, I realize is my hope, for the         

setting sun, awash with colors, will paint my evening canvas black. 
      Stars streak past me, so beautiful; burning out as they glow.

The inevitibility of aging and the short, streaking brillance of youth are well imaged here. I really like this.

Your poem has a strong lyrical deliberation to it, as if the words were to be etched in marble, giving the narrator's voice the quality of an epitaph, all the more so considering a human life's brief span contrasted w/the vastness of the night sky w/its shooting stars, presenting aeons of time. The shooting stars also suggest a life brightly, burningly lived. Beautiful luminous gravitas.
