Switchblades & Safetypins

Switchblades & Safetypins

A Poem by Nina Love

We'll laugh again,

Smile again,

Live and breathe and bleed again

As the pin goes

Deep in your skin,

As the knife bites

into the wrist

And neatly bisects

The thick blue vein

That lies in wait of

The best kind of pain.

Now scream for joy

Because death is near

And pain is here.

And if I die,

Could you dance upon my grave?

Would you laugh in my face?

Would you...

Follow me down,

Dressed in your best

Leather and lace

Ready to impress

Whatever waits

For us who

Open the door to

That one last place

Earlier than

What was the plan.

Hauntingly beautiful. The poem is dark. But the darkness is a romantic kind. The emotion is raw and piercing. It is easy to read and the flow of the poem contributes to the flow of emotions the poet is experiencing. It is difficult to ignore the agony that the poem conveys. Its message is sad, but exceptionally relevant.
