Eyes Wide To The Closed Mind

A feeble attempt to express something

It seems almost insidious
This new twisted reality
Gravity that's crushing
Keeps catching up with me

The world is still turning
Changing faster than I
Decay of all that I knew
Wondering if I'm still alive

The more that I watch
The more I see it tesselate
Building blocks blending together
Too far, is it too late

No, I refuse this new road
The scenery is frenetic
I'll cut a new path
And wave goodbye to the pathetic

I think we begin as kids on the boogie-boards of life - never straying too far into the foam - staying close to the beach. Then we come of age and tackle the big waves on proper boards and we grow in confidence and take on the next wave and eventually we do suffer a 'wipe-out'. It devastates us and knocks our confidence. We long for the safety of the boogie boards but we are in the surf whether we like it or not. Making for shore - opting out is one way to deal with it.
Another is to get back on the board and use your experience and guile to stay up.
I like where this took me - it pressed all the right buttons in this middle-aged reader.

This poem reflects in my eyes the struggle of watching the world around change when you are not ready to let go of the past, knowing that its too late to change things that have already happened a beautiful piece.

Very astute. It's a mixture of watching both the world change and myself, my world, my perceptions and my views. Unhappy with societal chaos as well as the chaos that bubbles up inside of me at times. We live in crazy times and it's making people crazy.
