A Friend-Inspired Poem

Ravens' Wings

 

Souls and spirits a fleeting past

Connect in ways forgotten last

walk earthen ground in distant lands

live different lives yet mind transcend

Free spirit imprint in life of yours

Alights my doorstep never before

Ravens' wings soar and fly overhead

Crows flock in my trees abound instead

Sights of wings so pitch and flocks so black

Remind me of your namesake’s nack

Of writing poems so spirit blessed

They sing to me, I must confess

i like the allusion to the raven---reminds me of poe...but also the pitch black sights of wings reminds me of Hitchcock's the Birds...

memories can haunt us, but they can also give us the seeds to write for evermore.
the spirit of the pen leads to our doorstep, and can we transcend our lives enough to look at them objectively and write about them?
the answer is in the wings...

Thank you, Brittany! I'm glad you like this one. Sometimes, the rhyming is effortless and just rolls out of my mind like water. This one was inspired by Lost Girl. I don't see her on here much any more, but she made me think of this one...So glad you like it! :)

Do they watch you watch them as well? Mine always sqawck loudly at me. I wish they only told me things I wanted to hear ...but alas they only tell me what they want me to know...Spirit journeys can be so hesitant and so grand all at the same instance.

Where did the idea come from that crows or ravens at your door was sign of an impending death? I seem to remember that from way, way back, but I don't know where it came from. Any ideas? Was it Poe?

Actually I think they got a bad rap long before that. It was Noah that sent out the raven and it did not return with an olive branch...there was no hope of life in it's return. I believe it began there.

Love any poem that captures the enigmatic nature of the midnight cloaked friend of the moon. I absolutely adore ravens and you spun this piece well, leaving bits of enchantment nestled within my mind. Fantastic write!

Birds are not far removed from dinosaurs...and that intelligence that I see in their eyes scares me...and fascinates me...reminds me of Jurassic Park. But just more beautiful! :)

Have you ever seen an ostrich or an Imu up close? They have this wicked scythe growing out the back of both feet....They scare me. We have a neighbor who used to raise them, and these birds would get out of his fence and run across the road to our property. I'd have to help him round them up...very scary birds! :)

Love this! I have a big yard which always abound with huge crows and ravens. I see them walking my roofline during the day outside my window when I am watching TV. They are quite mysterious and inspiring. I love to watch the velvet shimmer of their feathers as the change from blue to black and back again.
