The Caged Bird's Song

The Caged Bird's Song

A Poem by Cherry Chapstick
"

The poem sings for itself. I sing for others.

"

If only tears represented

A fraction of one's body weight,

For I could be famous

For my ability to lose weight

Fast and frequently.

If only my makeup didn’t run so

Down my face and into my life

Than I would save a lot of money

By not crying it off and reapplying

Continuously.

If only you could see

What you’re putting me through"

For what?

For I could be unburdened and free

But no, you’ve taped down my wings.

I am but a caged bird

Though I will still sing for you.

I think a lot of people can relate to this poem. Everyone's had moments in their lives when they've been held down by something or someone, weather it be a lover or a family member, or even just by their own state of mind. Your word choice is beautiful, and it really helped describe exactly what you're feeling. It's a beautiful poem, and I encourage you to keep on writing.
