I was not born yet when Pete Seeger wrote his songs

I was not born yet when Pete Seeger wrote his songs

A Poem by letters to parvati

I was not born yet when Pete Seeger wrote his songs

and gave us folk with his banjo and his smile

I was not born when 'red' meant more than color

and a ballad to free speech was met with rocks in car windows

I was not born in the bottom strata

but in a pool of wealth from love

I'm not a writer or a poet

My life is pen and paper, regardless

I love music in the dark, steel string on wood, hollowness reverberating the soul of a singer

I am a heathen in a righteous community

Give me a hand and a harp and a halo

and I am one of you
