Happy Pill

"Take this pill,"

they said

"It makes you happy,"

they said

 

I take the pill,

I feel happy

 

"See?"

they say

"You're happy,"

 

I take the pill monthly,

Weekly,

Daily...

 

Now I'm addicted,

Dying

 

Just to feel happy once more

Again you are very good at getting the message across without boring the reader with an abundance of words that are unnecessary. Straight to the point you are able to evoke emotion. Great way to end the poem as well, I applaud your simple choice of words to create a powerful conclusion. I too hope that another poem follows that is equally as powerful and emotion evoking, yet on the brighter side. It's not a race though, don't ever feel like it is as bad as you want to get to a new place (metaphorically).

I take it this is from a personal experience. You'd be surprised how many people rely on these forms of medication, just to make it through the day. Most do not divulge it. I myself have been off and on them for many years. I hope you write another poem soon and it has a happier ending!
