The Flame of ChildhoodA Poem by Patty GeraghtyBiography poem i did for lit classThe
man once said, What
is it? What
is life? I
wanted to know. I was
young, ponderous, and born in Atlanta, Georgia. Left
to watch life stroll by, To
engorge every detail. Here
lies the tale, Of
this. It’s
hard to know what this is, But
once you find it, It
will never leave you. I
wanted to be a chemist I
wanted to be a doctor I
wanted to be a lawyer I
wanted to know. I
wanted to be the architect of the world, I
wanted to know “You’re
just a child, Children
don’t understand” That’s
what they told me. I
wanted to be famous I
wanted to be the godly figure I
wanted to know To
know everything that was “You’re
just a child, Children
don’t understand” I
wanted to understand. There
were no answers. Top
of his class The
next great man The
greatest I’ve ever taught Young
and naïve I
wanted to be great and wise I
wanted to know. I
wanted The knowledge. © 2012 Patty Geraghty |
