Getting into it

Getting into it

A Poem by Donald Meikle

December third and what a day

Strolling slowly in shirtsleeves

to empty a too full mail box

Then tucking down a hot lunch

Soup and sandwich

Birds flutter every where

Sparkling in sunlight

It's time to do the outside decorations

Strings of colored lights

garlands of plastic red and green

Wreaths on doors

Candles in windows

Memories of plum pudding

and daring mistletoe

Store fronts and cookies

Thin sugar  lemon crepe rolls

Street cars full of shoppers

as carols fill the air

gold wrapped chocolate coins

Wrapped in tight green nets

A friend of mine was complaining that there was no source of poetry in everyday experience. This poem politely disagrees
