Valentine

Valentine

A Poem by Donald Meikle

A Valentine's Day of roses and memories

Nudging tears to form above smiling eyes

A heart shaped cactus balances atop a spiky arm

As we laugh at the wonder of the thought behind it

She got a dozen red roses from a guy

Who wrote he'd loved her since High School

And didn't sign it

Who was Valentine?
