Slightly bent

Slightly bent

A Poem by Donald Meikle
"

Hope y'get my drift

"
An approach to truth in unsung song
A stroll in Summer rain
Shadows dance on trees in sun
A Gypsy soul's refrain

Pain stings of effort to remain
As true as blue and firms
Bending in the winds of time
To tack and come to terms

Steering stars remembered bars
Long crossed yet ever lurk
To cause a change in course that jars
A man to go berserk

Still the way is open yet
With cargo of remorse
To toil to work to swear and sweat
To stay the bloody course

And as in youth
The Way of Truth
Will shape the soul to rise
And soar with no surprise

I like the feel of this one...I love "ships in the night" metaphors, they work so well for so many aspects of our lives. This poem has such a great tone and flow, and even though I'm not usually one for rhyme, this was expertly done. Bravo!

ah, this is really really nice. i'm a little confused by the meaning of "as true as blue and firms" the word firms is what's confusing me.

I like your poems for except of poetic experience I always know: now I am going to learn something.
This one was wonderfully flowing, this reminds me always on important truth. Charming!
Thank you also for reading my free verse poem, I slightly changed it, it is less sensual then before.
Hope you are smiling and having a great autumn. be well.

"cargo of remorse"...like a line from shakespere, and a sentiment from any who passed that way...ed
