Chillin'

Chillin'

A Poem by Donald Meikle

 it's almost sundown

I checked the clock

It's almost Thanksgiving

Everything's soaked

Rescued carrots from rain thawed dirt

Hot soup eased the chill

cool chablis eased the pain

Cat keeps sliding from blue jeans lap

to resettle higher and slowly reslide

Claws are verboten

She knows

Time for a refill

This poem's done

Cat's at the window

studying darkness

I love this poem and how you capture so much of a moment and make mundane everyday moments into so much more. I especially love the part about the cat sliding down your lap. There is a sense of warmth, hearth and home here. Beautifully written.
