La Dame et mobile

La Dame et mobile

A Poem by Donald Meikle
"

On old time radio Liverpool 40's 6:45 Dick Barton Special Agent a hero or criminal whistled the tune whenever he appeared (or left)

"
It was an opera
a tale for singing
I never heard the words
My ears were ringing

On old time radio
There was a Shadow
I tried so hard
To emulate him

I sang
Bells rang
I listened some more
and then
just when
It opened a door

And caught
Enrapt
In music 's enthrall
I sang
and sang
As if at a ball

The magic of the notes
Within a child's mind
echoed on through my years
Until I had to find
A tune to satisfy
My soul so hungry

It's there
I know
It's there on my tongue
The words
I sang
When I was so young

it is amazing how music can affect us like this...sometimes I can certain piece of music and just transformed out of myself like you were here. This poem really celebrates those wonderful moments. Thank goodness we have them.

ah yes...this i can relate to well. the children of this age will never know what it was like to hear a radio show. to let the imagination run away with what was hear and and to dream of what was to come....to follow the song....

nicely done.

good for you, my friend...the electro generations will never know what it was like, and how our imaginations were nurtured
