The Shakespeare exercise

The Shakespeare exercise

A Poem by Donald Meikle

The unstrained quality of mercy
Is once more to the breach
The sounds that mesh
With pound of flesh
are ringing in my ears
like ravens singing through my years
As once again I well with tears
It's so damned hard to quote the bard
It seems I've made the cut
Alas alack I never learned to make
a crucial putt

This one is quite difficult for me. I try to comprehend. A disposition to be kind and forgiving is to ask with the question "what motivates my compassion?" I enjoyed this poem, it challenged my understanding.
