In Sanity

In Sanity

A Poem by Donald Meikle

Things to do to see my soul

Buy some humming bird feeders

Fill them half full with an equal mix of sugar and water

and a touch of red food coloring.

The birds will keep you busily watching.

Or

 Plant a pear tree

Wait till it produces fruit

Buy a Daisy rifle with bb s

Set up a comfortable deck chair

and a well filled beer cooler

Shoot the wasps as they core the pears

Or

Plant flowers and shrubs to blossom in every direction

Especially butterfly bushes

Then

Dig a fish pond or two with ever splashing water

Fill them with koi and goldfish

Set up chairs with tables

Drink wine and feed the fish at sunset

Or

Pour another glass each and watch the humming birds

If you can afford the constantly high electricity bill

Install a hot tub

It's great.

Especially  on a starry night

Or even a winter snowstorm.

These are some of the things that have kept me insane.
