Lazy Hazy

Lazy Hazy

A Poem by Donald Meikle

awake reborn again in too bright light

Sounds blend together in tinkling babel bird talk

Warm covers briefly hold insistent

The fireplace roars in blazing newborn glory

As the first sip of coffee wets lips and whets thoughts

Soon the sizzling sound of spitting bacon

will argue with the toaster for attention

It's just another Sunday morning

With needless heedless thoughts to ponder

As awakening dreams grow fonder

I taste the haste of life and time

And play today with rhyme

Nicely done. You use your words well here. Quite a good read with some well thought out imagery.

I love all the word play, melody, alliteration; the imagery and feel of the poem is so nonchalant and so understated but it's a concise, sweet picture of the every day. It's why people should write. To glorify and celebrate the mundane. So many times I read on this site vast epic descriptions of despair. I enjoyed this well-written sunday drive. I think you may be my new favorite author on this site.

I like wet lips and whet thought. Ah Sunday mornings and writing.
