This poem expands on the gospel passage "the kingdom of God is within you" (Luke 17), and extends, too, on the concept of church - not just a conglomerant of like minded believers, but perhaps even a unity of aspects that make up "the self" - for as Genesis suggests; we are made in His image.

One of my favorite writers is a fellow by the name of Thomas Merton. His writings have taught me how to believe in religion without being religious. If you enjoy poetry and religion I recommend a collection of Buddhist poems translated/interpreted by Thomas Merton called The Way of Chuang Tzu. It's a singular hybrid of eastern and western religious philosophy. Everyone should keep that book next to them and read it frequently throughout their lives.

Yeah, I find a little (maybe a lot) of Buddhists writing quite worthwhile. !

Thomas Merton might particularly interest you. He's one of the more objective Christian intellectuals to try and bridge the gap between other religions. He's overall interesting to look into, his biography is very interesting. All religions across the world should be celebrating this man more than they currently do.
