Your words are sincerely, finely and very well laid. BUT, the thoughts within don't have to be, surely. 'Cynicism is adopted when wit dismays', some bright academic wrote a billion years ago.. but it has its place in the mind of those who can't and won't see the futility of some goings-on. Perhaps it pays to laugh more and look to the clouds for a moving cabaret.

We only seem to learn in the material sense and on an individual level. Every couple hundred years the group social contract has to be ruthlessly shattered and reconstituted for some reason. It doesn't seem to be getting better. It seems like the 1700's French aristocracy is going to inspire another american revolution, but in a different way. The Reign of Terror was supposed to be a cautionary tale.
