It's Down the Road, Not Across the StreetA Poem by Angel_Rose1979I hope you'll understand, Times got real rough, Please understand my friend, I simply didn't have the heart to be tough. All my life was a constant fight, And when I would start to question my life, And begin to back down in defeat, One of my very closest friends, Often would hand me a knife, And say " Remember its down the road, not across the street.", And that if I truly wanted to go, I'd simply have to follow those instructions, and that would be the end. As I grew older, My issues got worse, My friend was gone, He'd taken his own life, Without him I was lost, I decided it was finally time to retreat, Each day my heart grew colder, And I began to dream of my ride in a hearse, And I prayed it would not be long, Then one day I got an idea, and grabbed a knife, I knew it would hurt, but that was a small cost, And it was at that moment, I remembered, "Its down the road, not across the street." Now I'm sure you can probably guess I'm gone, My best friends saying I kept, And at the time I was filled with fright, But as I had hoped, it didn't last long, I followed his footsteps, So I wasn't left behind, And now, we have been reunited.
