The Vulture

The Vulture

A Poem by Brandon Houser

Where are the ones
Who suffered through
Your flight of fancy
Swallowed whole
Into a fountain of lies

Hidden on the wings
A little tear
Inside a prayer
Waiting naked
In a dream that soon will die.

Shadows only follow
In a circle
Of the home
That you abandoned
Long ago inside your mind.

All the eyes upon you
Never knew
You would devour
Everything that gave
A vision to the blind.

And where is the road
You never traveled
Sinking slowly
Balanced on a path
That you never even crossed.

Deep inside your soul
There lies a vulture
Tearing through
The empty ruins
Of the innocence you lost.

Very thoughtful and deep…. Makes me shiver…” deep inside your soul lies a vulture”….. a raw and cutting line…. Perhaps the truth….” All eyes upon you”….
This is damning and powerful….and well written

I appreciate that Betty!
This one cuts deep in a quiet way.
The imagery is stark, but it feels honest.
You write the darker parts of the self with a kind of clarity that lingers.

About
Not sure what to add here. I have been writing poems since I was 16. Saved much of it, lost some of it. I'm 51 now. Lately I have felt a need to get my voice out there. I guess like a lot of .. more..
