Reflections

Reflections

A Poem by Brandon Houser

Did you ever look at someone
And think to yourself
They are a reflection of you?
They were all that you were?
Yet you only saw them
In the shattered glass
Of a smashed mirror?

Were they waiting on the changes
That were already working on you?
If the changes were there
Maybe for them they were unclear
Did they find them?
Did they accept or deny them?

Maybe they turned
To the nearest door
And hid in shadows of their hurt
Did you long
To see them break free?

Did they live to find their wealth?
Did you cry for them
And wonder.....
Did they ever cry for themselves?

Nice use of the term reflections here....

I like the way you play around with mirrors and the ego....someone seeking to find acceptance

I liked the final stanza:

Did they live to find their wealth?
Did you cry for them
And wonder.....
Did they ever cry for themselves?

Thanks for sharing this poem...

The shattered mirror metaphor is powerful here. The closing lines carry such tenderness... hoping someone found the self-worth they couldn’t see.

Not sure what to add here. I have been writing poems since I was 16. Saved much of it, lost some of it. I'm 51 now. Lately I have felt a need to get my voice out there. I guess like a lot of .. more..
