These Walls

These Walls

A Poem by Brandon Houser

Here we are again
The feeling hits and sinks
Taking us down
Way down to the brink
What fools are we
We let the world stall
And we crumble in the deep
To build up these walls

I stand here a fighter
Who knocks himself down
A survivor who swims
While trying to drown
Lord help this fool
Please answer his call
Please give me the will
To tear down these walls

For now I'll be a castle
In the sinking sand
Searching for a prayer
An angel's guiding hand
Carry me dear angel
So I learn not to fall
And please give me the wisdom
To stay clear of these walls

I feel the willingness to move forward in these lines despite the darkness and wall building. There is hope. There is light at the end of that long tunnel. Nicely structured composition Brandon.

So tender, the way you name the breaking and still reach for light. This one feels like a hand lifted toward hope.

About
Not sure what to add here. I have been writing poems since I was 16. Saved much of it, lost some of it. I'm 51 now. Lately I have felt a need to get my voice out there. I guess like a lot of .. more..
