Humility

Humility

A Poem by Brandon Houser

It's no secret
We all need to find
A little space
For a humble mind
Listen people
You can spare some time
For Humility

It doesn't take a knife
To make the cut
One door opens
The other one shuts
You don't have
To be stuck in a rut
For Humility

You don't have to be blunt
Or be too direct
Don't be innocent or guilty
Just be a suspect
Look deep in your heart
And try to resurrect
Some Humility

This is not a drill
It's an open book test
Take it easy
Give yourself some rest
A saint and sinner
Can be equally blessed
With Humility

Finely laid words, not quite advice but Hope at least to be read and thought about. Humility has become a dirty word in today's search-and-grab world, more's the pity. Why is gentle and courteous behaviour seen as a weakness these days? Humility is pleasant and polite, friendly and warm.. not harm in any of those words. Your poetry really does touch thought and make it memorable.

'Look deep in your heart
And try to resurrect
Some Humility'

It certainly won't hurt to at least try.. ..

A lovely piece of poetry here Brandon offering sound advice. To be modest, respectful and free from arrogance are all fine qualities, as is, to listen to people and not pass judgement. We don’t know what it is like to walk in the shoes of another. A fine composition.

A well rhymed piece here, about a quality that doesn't make the news much in these times. The first and last verses resounded most clearly with me, for taken together they advise us to take time to listen to people, and also not to judge them. I'm almost tempted to forward this one to the White House.

This feels like a gentle blessing, humility as a way back to ourselves.

Not sure what to add here. I have been writing poems since I was 16. Saved much of it, lost some of it. I'm 51 now. Lately I have felt a need to get my voice out there. I guess like a lot of .. more..
