The Things Meant To Be

The Things Meant To Be

A Poem by Brandon Houser

Dancers in the dark
Make their own kind of light
Keepers of the wrong
Make their own kind of right
And here we sit aimless
Eyes following the trail
Of ships in the night
Drifting without sails
While the lamp burns out
Before we could see
Awareness in the sight
Of the things meant to be

Tears in the alley
Make their own kind of rain
Healers in the distant
Make their own kind of pain
And here we watch all frozen
Not to move in the cold
Still our feelings turn to ice
And the fire keeps us old
While the kings just turn away
Before leaving queens to flee
From falling off the throne
Of the things meant to be

Singers with no song
Make their own kind of voice
People with no answers
Make their own kind of choice
And here we sit just spinning
As the world turns to now
But the losers can't ask why
And the winners can't say how
While the crooks all rob us blind
From sea to shining sea
While locked away in chains
Of the things meant to be

Lyrical, lovely rhythm and rhyme. Enjoyed the imagery too. I reckon it would make a good song Brandon. All the best.

The imagery keeps folding in on itself... light from dark, right from wrong... and it’s haunting. The way you let opposites collapse into each other gives the whole piece its pulse.

How do you make every line sound like a famous theme?

Not sure what to add here. I have been writing poems since I was 16. Saved much of it, lost some of it. I'm 51 now. Lately I have felt a need to get my voice out there. I guess like a lot of .. more..
