The Blues

The Blues

A Poem by lola jones

Some people, even people with depression describe depression as sadness,

Even at the doctors they’ll ask you “do you feel sad all the time?”

When referring to depression,

As they try to diagnose an illness you can not see, you can not touch, so you question yourself “is it real?”

I want you to imagine the saddest moment in your life,

Whether it be your grandma dying your dog is dying a friendship is dying,

Something is usually dying.

I want you to grab that sad moment, times it by ten and make it last for days, weeks, months, years even and that is depression but it’s also not.

There is a difference between sadness and depression and one day they’ll laugh at how blithe we take depression, one day I swear, one day we won’t have to ask ourselves is it real.
