the way i see love

i wrote this a long time ago whenever i decided i was truly in love

It’s not the blazing fire in your heart or a flicker in your tummy. It’s the orangey yellow sky right before a sunrise, or the feeling of poprocks on your tongue. It’s sweet and warm but exciting. I want to visit parks and oceans with him. I want to kiss under fireworks and hug after a long day at work. I want to go to a fancy dinner and order pizza on Thursday nights. I want to do all the spectacular things in life, but more I want to do the simplest. I want to own a home with him and have a joint bank account and take turns feeding the cat. I want to see his face light up when I walk in the room and his face when he’s furious with me. But there’s still so many things we have. Like inside jokes and afternoon naps used to procrastinate assignments, the promise of a goodnight text each and every night. I see hurricanes in his eyes and constellations in his skin. I discover new things about him every day, like the way he bites his eyes flicker when he’s frustrated and how he shows affection. I find the most beautiful scars on his hands and joy in his smile. I can see the man he will become and the boy he’s been. When I look at him I see love. It may not be your stereotypical romance, but in my eyes in the best kind. It’s the kind that will last a lifetime the kind that doesn’t just come and go. It’s the kind that will hold you together until the end. It’s the kind nobody looks for but the kind everyone needs.
