Butterfly Wings

The bed sheets rustle

you sigh in your sleep

so beautiful,

what are your dreams?

Do you dream

of white knights?

Of thunderous battles?

Or do you dream

of something more quiet?

Your hair wisps around your face

as your eyelids flutter

like gentle butterfly wings

that create a monstrous hurricane

Do the leaves in your

dreams, whisper or crash?

Is wind soft, winding

or loud and howling?

Are your dreams

filled with silence?

Or sounds?

I like the first couple lines of the last stanza, that painted a really lovely picture in my head. Such simple metaphors make up the beauty of this poem, like the gentle butterfly wings whipping up hurricanes. I also love how you start so gentle and end with such a crash, aha.

It's such a lovely poem. Calming and relaxing, and the imagery is incredible. The contradictory metaphors are simple but hold much depth, and the questions seem to gather in a huge whirlwind by the end of the poem, another contradiction to the soothing and gentle title. Wonderfully written. Thank you.
