The Caged Bird

Yes, I know this is already a poem, but I've made my own version

"Why does the caged bird sing?"
The bird sings
sitting in it's cage
made of a material, unnatural
unable to fly,
prohibiting access to the sky

He sings
a song of hope
and of love
 for his brethren
free, far above

The bars of the cage
hold his body in
but his soul, deep within
soars in an imaginary sky
unsure of exactly why
he sings
controlled
by the bars
but he sings of hope

Oh that's so beautiful. I loved the meaning, "he sings of hope." That first line really opened it nicely, and I do like how you go on the give the answer. It's sad how he's caged, but wonderful how he still holds hope. This was was a really great poem, truly.

This is actually really sweet.. in a way. I love the image of the caged bird singing dreaming of the sky. It's sad, but lovely all the same. Awesome write.

Sophie, When I first read it, I loved it and now, I love it even more! I really think that it is a sweet poem. Even though the bird is caged, he can find hope. Quite meaningful. I love it!
