Holding HandsA Poem by Maddi Snowden
I'm not sure why,
but there is nothing more satisfying than holding hands with someone for the first time. To feel the strength in their hands and the way they run their thumb in circles as if trying to convey a secret message that cannot be heard through the air. Maybe it's the way the fingers intertwine or how they could so easily let go even though they won't. Perhaps it is the simplicity of it even though it causes our minds to race with a million possibilities and a hundred futures. And no matter why holding hands is such a innocent and beautiful gesture, I am thankful to have held yours for however short a while. (M.S.)
