The Fire.A Poem by Maitri GandhiAimed at domestic violence, this creation does not attempt to influence anybody on the basis of the protagonist's ways of seeking justice. The poem does not intend to inspire.Daddy gave me away with love in his heart Don't hear from him anymore, with my world falling apart. My wedding was beautiful with white lillies and roses God, you promised me another door if the first one closes But i don't see it, with my good eye, the left one I begged him to stop, or he would've left me none Thinking of my pretty past, I lie awake at night When i had the luxuries of gardens, picnics and kites How does sunshine feel, how do old books smell He doesn't let me out of the house, keeps me close to hell He promised my mom that we'd live a life filled with love He broke her heart, but she can't say much from above I should've known how to keep his beers cold Should've cleaned his room the second he had told Never should've complained about that other woman I made mistakes too, like marrying that cruel human. I won't clean my blood off the kitchen floor tonight Or he might falsely think that I'm strong enough to fight He'll hurt my head again or worse, iron my thighs So, to make the pain go away faster, ill just close my eyes He's thinks i don't deserve love, and that I'm just a slave That his lack of decency hasn't actually made me brave And so while i hide in his closet this moon lit night I demand to let him know when things are wrong and right He's going to look so handsome, when the cops find us tomorrow Burnt body like mine, in the fire, dagger in his stomach and a heart full of sorrow. © 2015 Maitri Gandhi |
