Sleeping awayA Poem by M. Shepherd
It was the equinox, night no longer stealing
away the covers from a shivering day. I did not wake from the time the light slipped away to the time it slunk back in, a professional. When I closed them my eyes were shot liver spots, when reopened, rinsed eggs My body wakes me when empty I fill it with nuts and grains Then return to my grave. Only in partial jest he tells me my hair smells of a birds nest And my eyes are caught by the pattern of a dish underneath the couch. Mine? © 2015 M. ShepherdReviews
