“Blue Child”
a Freestyle poem by
Maria del Carmen

Your eyes a deep yet light blue
Sensing your strength
Yet behind them lies a dark past
Moving from trailer to trailer
Didn’t have the dream childhood
Less of a childhood at all
Mother couldn’t support you
Nor yourself as you tried to help
Spending two years in a hotel
Working for her and barely making by
Dear blue child, you’ve been through a terrible place
Life doesn’t seem to be getting any better
Don’t give up, though because as they say,
“Time heals everything”
And will time heal for you
Along the road you will meet someone to guide you
Guide you through your troubles and help you along the way
Heed what that person says because it may bring you hope
Hope that you hold onto for yourself to live your life
To the fullest and be satisfied enough not to look back
Because you got what life gave you and found the courage to move on
