Across the RoomA Poem by RiSsA
There’s a full length mirror on the wall across from my bed. Sometimes I sit there and stare at myself. I think of what I’m doing Where I’m going What I want. I daydream And ask “What if?” My reflection in the mirror is a companion. Her eyes are my eyes and they know everything about me. We have the same insecurities, We mirror each others’ emotions, And share each lonely moment. I’ve watched her cry, laugh, And sing my favorite songs. The full length mirror is on the wall across from my bed. Sometimes it is my enemy. It can be brutally honest. Without any sense of tact it shows the kinks in my hair, The blemishes on my face, And the exact way my clothes hug my body. It does not spare my feelings. My reflection stares at me from across the room. She sighs and half heartedly grins. She sits on the bed in the mirror reflecting my solitude. My imagination wonders if maybe I’m her reflection. Do I stare at her from the wall across her room? Does she look at me and think of what she wants. And does she too ask “What if?” © 2009 RiSsA |
