If I had a NickelA Poem by Matthew James GinnParent's love is hard understand until you become. A Poem inspired by a father i met in a air port, his love never failing.
Since that quirky smile
Which Lit up my face the first time the small tender grasp of my finger that unforgettable mind Those groggy nights of hearing them cry oh would i give a nickel to get some sleep this night That cool autumn day which he took his first steps which i stood by their side my hands open like an empty net this little piece of mischief swaying like a little cute tide. His innocent little frown when i fix his hair The sound of excitement when i attended his school's job fair Proud of Mommy and daddy Our memory to share Now i see him in his gown with his eyes all around His hands still grasping the future His words " I'm grown up now" This time i swear If i had a nickle for every time they'd made me smile Id be a rich man Id be wealthy for awhile Now that they are gone oh what wouldn't i pay they've gone from the nest to live with the rest this day If i had a nickel for the memories I miss of my little boy and girl Give them one more kiss They've grown up now with their wives and kids My job is done No matter the amount of nickel dimes or quarters my Children were my treasure My reward beyond measure.
