A City With Locked Doors

A City With Locked Doors

A Poem by Max Rwizi, Jr.

She says,
How come you never open up to me,
How come you never cut open your chest for me to see how your heart beats for me.
If it even beats, for me.
How come you tell me I'm the only tenant in your heart but still feel like your mind is on the market looking for one.

I say,
My heart is a city with locked doors
Still finding my way through the streets
Trying to locate the parts of myself I have lost
You ask me to dismantle the walls
To expose the tender flesh beneath
But what if the scars you see make you question your place in my story
