A Second Meditation on Light

A Second Meditation on Light

A Poem by Michael Sun Bear
"

A meditation on our relationship to the Creator

"

We all live bathed in the Creator’s Light

There are a few

Gurus, Murshids

Who act as a lens to focus

The Light to set hearts afire

In yearning for the Beloved

But most of us are muddy prisms

Breaking that light

Into our facets of self

Some aglow strongly with a few

Spirited colors

That still speak our birth

Most a weak shine

Of one or two colors

Almost lost of her essence

Pray through the night

Cry out for a Guide

Let her Light shine through you

In all sacred color

Your heart become scripture set afire

Be the Light

I will check out your work.
I added it to my favorites to reflect on your poem again, when I need that light. Thanks Michael

Thank you James, I am honored.
I really love the metaphor of light and how it reflects through us. I haven’t yet felt my heart set afire....if I did, I’d probably mistake it for heartburn. Maybe I just don’t have the wisdom to understand it yet. I’m jaded and don’t really believe in much anymore, but your poem gives me hope that maybe I’m just seeing it through a muddy prism. Beautifully written. It makes me want to believe in that kind of light.

I love the metaphor of the human heart as a prism..sometimes muddy, sometimes bright..breaking the Creator’s Light into fragments of self. It’s both gentle and exacting, a call to awareness and devotion without ever being didactic. The way you invite the reader to “be the Light” is both a benediction and a challenge, a recognition that spirituality is lived, not merely imagined. There’s a reverent rhythm to your lines, a measured grace that mirrors the meditative state you describe.
Beautifully penned

Once upon a time, a crazy, talented poet from across the Salish Sea told me of an intense dream she experienced in which she was given a strange title for a poem, but nothing more. She felt it import.. more..
