My New Friend

My New Friend

A Poem by Michael Sun Bear
"

Tribute to a Poet

"

Awake still

3:00 AM

I read you

I breathe you

Poet of the curve of flesh

The curve of lies

Of the curve pitch even

What storm threw you

Ashore amidst drift debris of love

Coughing up pain

Spewing sorrow

Half drowned but

Free of a man’s tidal undertow

Your words glitter

Amidst the salt tear silt

Like a Japanese glass net float

To a beach combing reader

Superior use of words and images here captures perfectly the effect of the poet's intent. I would be interested in knowing his identity.

Interesting write, friend. Poetry is like breath sometimes and I can feel it here.

Michael,
I too need a new friend... one whose words glitter, and carries a Japanese glass net. Nice turn of phrase... "Poet of the curve of flesh
The curve of lies..."

This reminds me of Denzel Washington's appearance on Sesame Street in character as Alonzo Harris.

It’s amazing that at their very core, poets are bottom feeders when it comes to poems. Even morsels from our preferred tables are a feast! Absolute beauty here, Michael🕊️🙏🏻

One of the best things about the internet has been the few poets whose words have touched me. A very good write. ~Jim

Thanks Jim, I wrote this for Sarah, right below if not obvious. She’s great, check out her stuff.
Some of the imagery hits close, especially the way it talks about someone weathering storms and still shining through. It has this gentle, late‑night admiration to it that feels personal. It’s a beautiful tribute to someone who’s been through a lot and still carries something bright.

Thanks Sarah. And the post right below is the young lady I spoke about.
I really liked it, you could feel that the person had gone through something but survived it. Beautifully written

Thanks Marie, appreciate your reading.
I like the tremendous lyrical quality of this writing. It hums with admiration it should have for itself. Beautiful.
