Holocaust

A Poem by Mario Vitale
"

What Hitler did will go down in history as the worst.

"

Holocaust

Holocaust...Trapped..Like the fires of Hell,
Destroyed the old and the young
Millions suffered the agony and despair
Holocaust...Covered in bruises,

Scarring the mind and body for life
Letting only the strong survive
The smell of death lingering in the air,
All around people dying,

Dead bodies piled high as mountains
Holocaust...Like an endless path,
Desperate to leave, With no way out
Holocaust..No name, blank faces,

Look past the face,
Eyes like flames screaming to be extinguished
Holocaust...To live is pain
To die is rest

Holocaust...

I agree. This was among the worst, along with Stalin. Hundreds of millions have been slaughtered, starved, and gassed at the hands of the most evil men in history. I'm reminded of one witness who stated that while they were in church on Sunday, they could hear the rail cars passing behind the church; and they could her the moans and cries of the Jews begging for help. In order to drown out their cries, the Germans sang louder. That to me is almost worse, how people can turn a blind eye and pretend nothing is happening. Such history should never repeat itself, but sadly, it does. It seems we never learn. We should always remember and never forget. Thank you.
