Twenty

Twenty

A Poem by Melanie
"

Coming to terms with my second decade...

"
I was never that girl who went out
And stayed out all hours of the night
Unafraid of being caught

I never had a first kiss at a party
With a boy I didn't know
Just to leave him standing alone

I never had alcohol sting my lips
Or any sort of smoke in my lungs
Just to feel young

I wasn't an average teen
That was shown on the screen
I didn't like that sort of thing

Instead I stayed at home
I read books alone
And wrote poems for fun

In three days I turn twenty
More of an adult than I've ever been
Yet  deep down still a kid

When I was a kid.... I couldn't wait to get older....
this crap isn't what I expected.

Wow! I am not sure if this is true of you but I know I was one who wrote poems for fun and stayed home alone, and yes, deep down I am still a kid even at age 23!
