If I Could Spell "Love"

If I Could Spell "Love"

A Poem by Meliss@k

If I could spell
"Love"
With a brush
And paint,
I'd spell it out
With blood from a Saint
Who was spit on and cursed
For doing no wrong,
I'd gather a canvas
And wipe it white
Till the blood seeps through
To the other side.
I'd drink up the blood
With a sacred bread heal
And watch my withered body
Slowly
Start to heal.
As a stitch is sewn
From the inside out
A crowd
Ties my knot
In their world of doubt,
Still disbelieving
Blinded to seeing
Blood spilling out of
A lamb and his crown.

This one is ripe with biblical imagery. I like the idea of the "blood of a saint", because what truly is more beautiful to behold, or to use as a medium, than purity and innocence? You have used a lot of great imagery here, and the flow was quite nice as well. The latter half of the piece seems to lose the flow just a wee bit, but the beginning to middle was spot on.

I would possibly suggest adding a stanza break before the line "As a stitch is sewn", because there is a transitional moment in the piece here. You are speaking of the painting and the Saint's blood, then you go for the more global conclusion at this point, so it would be a good place to give the reader a little pause for reflection before driving home your final point. Overall, nicely done.
