Insufficient

Insufficient

A Poem by Michael Hess

Scattered pages, scattered thoughts,

Scattered words just aren't enough

To express myself, to spill my heart.

So much to say, but where to start.

I have these verses I want to write,

But I just can't seem to get them right.

These verses just won't let me win,

So I'll burn them now and start again.

The title of this poem "Insufficient" unintentionally has three meanings. I was writing about how despite the fact that I have tried many times to answer my best friend's, who I have fallen for, question, "Why do you think I'm so great?", no matter how long my answer or how educated my words or how long I've taken to really contemplate my answer, the answer is never accurate. It is always less than what I feel and does not clarify things for her (or even me). But after the first verse, I hit a block. So then came the second and third meanings of the title. Not only was the subject about the insufficiency of my answers to her, but the poem which I was trying to explain my inability to answer was also insufficient in length and purpose.

When trying to write and express our feelings..well..it's hard! haha. I think that we have to know exactly how we feel to truly be able to know how to write about it. And when are we completely sure about how we feel? Not very often. But that's just me. lol
Great poem, keep up the awesome work,
