A Moment of Recognition

A Moment of Recognition

A Poem by michaela
"

A poem for my Grandfather on this beautiful holiday, upon which we commemorate those who have served our country, and all those who have gone before us. I love you, Papa!

"
Today, I smiled when I thought of you
I regret remembering as infrequently as I do.
You gave so much, and I love you so
I wonder why you had to go
The memories that we had shared
Leave me wishing I had prepared
To learn of a life without you here.
I found it hard to restrain my tears
A soldier and father with so much love
I know you smile on me from above.
I miss you now, as I missed you then
And I long to see your face again.
And I swear that I will not forget
Because to you I owe a debt.
I love you.

Author's Note

michaela
It really is a childish poem, and I don't think I executed my idea very well. However, I felt I needed to commemorate him in some way today. He was a great man, and I miss him very much.
