Free Fall.

Free Fall.

A Poem by michelle-entendu

Paint the room black,
Grab me by the shoulders and
Spin me around and around
The way we did as kids to feel the
Rush of a spinning room
Slowly float back to normal.
Except I want to spin forever,
To feel like I’m always on
The edge of falling
Or just a single step from losing control.
I’ll make my own orbit right where I stand
To confuse the world
The way it confuses me.
See, the world can decide
To slow down without warning,
Wrecking my balance
As I stagger for a solid grasp.
Then it spitefully speeds up again
As my hands slip away
And i’m sent into a dizzying spin
With my feet barely skimming the ground.
But:
If I never let my feet stop
I’ll never stop spinning
And, though I might always be on the brink,
I can never fall.
The world may pass by in a blur but
That’s the way I want it
Until I reach solid ground
Where its safe to let go,
To release myself,
And let the world do
What it wants with me
