Baby Dreds

Baby Dreds

A Poem by Michelle Gent
"

When babies have didn't ideas than you do

"
Baby Dreds-

Roly-poly baby tires
Velvet dred-lock spirals
spin out of control

Turquoise eyes pout
Signaling an S.O.S of discontentment
Silent though speaking volumes

Cheshire dimples smile
Predicting hurricane Angel
brewing just on the horizon
Innocent face a decoy, a ploy, a distraction

Bottle's n****e dangles
from corner of mouth
Doll clenched in chubby hand shrieks
Upon being dragged across the floor

King Kong's crawling tushy
waddles away
One sock on the other's escaped
Wiggling piggy's wave

Bulging diaper deploys a detonated bomb
That's ready to implode
Disheveled misfits determinations is evident

Trying to make a swift getaway
But to no avail, scooped up and surprised
Daring and defiant, her body goes limp
Playing dead her only defense

Carried toward bedroom
Arms and legs flailing
Reanimated tissue rebels

Throwing bottle in resistance
Gilded cage frames, puppy dogs pouting eyes
Filled and teary, they make one last appeal

Rock-a-bye baby
Rock-a-bye baby dred
Doing your time now, hitting the rock pile
in slumber land

Under pixie dust influence
You sleep peacefully
Dreaming dreams and suckling
a bottle that doesn't exist
