Precious CargoA Poem by Mickey EllisonResponsibility by the crate full.
Two miles A long way to go on a go-cart A slab of steel Bolts for axels And a 3-horse Brigs and Stratton The vibration and bounce Is what made it fun. But this job was serious For the two yet so young Mom needed us to do it. 4-dozen eggs were ordered up “Try not to break them” In a flash, we’re off The younger drove The older stood There beside the motor Holding fast to the roll-bar Then cradling the cargo Between his legs At a slower pace back home Mom always said thanks Never failing to say How proud she was of her boys On egg delivery day. They never broke . . . . not one. © 2008 Mickey Ellison |
