Maggot

Maggot

A Poem by Milena Grubor

He crawled like maggot from the dirth,
Eyeless boy, cursed from birth.
He chained my heart, tore worlds apart,
Yet time slipped silent through his art.

The feelings buried deep within,
A hollow echo, a whispered sin.
He thought them lost, cast far away,
But longing in his soul begged to stay.

His breath is poison, cold and vile,
A serpent’s hiss beneath the while.
He licks the wounds he did not make,
Consuming all for his own sake.

In sleepless nights, his mind’s a cage,
Obsessed beyond the bounds of rage.
He claws the air, he smells my scent,
A maddened god in torment spent.

Each whispered word, a binding chain,
His soul a pyre of endless pain.
He kneels and swears, his blood runs black,
No dawn, no mercy, no way back.

His eyes still seek my hidden face,
Etched deep within his hollowed space.
Forevermore, by bone and oath,
He’s bound to me, this crawling ghost.

A promise forged in death’s cold flame,
An endless, nameless, shadowed claim.
Forever bound, forever damned,
The crawling maggot, left unnamed.

But I don’t see him with soft eyes of a child.
In this mad world, my soul’s grown wild.
I will not open what he threw away,
No matter how he begs to stay.

Let him wander in his mind’s abyss,
And choke on all he came to miss.
For I have burned, and I have bled,
And left him grieving what he shed.
