Exorcism Of Ann

Exorcism Of Ann

A Poem by Milena Grubor

She gave her youth to one black name,
A vow engraved in smoke and shame.
Her heart, a shrine of dying bloom,
Now beats within a lover’s tomb.

He drained her soft, forgiving eyes,
Till silence filled her holy cries.
He fed on dreams, on breath, on bone,
And left her mind a haunted throne.

She spoke to mirrors, begged the flame,
To whisper back her stolen name.
The Devil’s tongue caressed her ear,
And sang her lullabies of fear.

The priests came armed with salt and prayer,
Their psalms dissolved into despair.
No holy oil, no sacred creed,
Could cleanse the wound that chose to bleed.

They bound her wrists, they locked the door,
Her laughter spilled across the floor.
The walls began to breathe her sin,
And shadows learned the shape of skin.

Heavy write, one of the poems I've read on here as of late.

I missed your writing, hadn’t checked you out for a while. You haven’t lost your touch. The rhythm and rhyme are exquisite, the dark story stealing joy and raising the hairs of my arms. Well done.
