Sleep CircleA Poem by Mira
It's hard to fall asleep
when my insomnia hits. I circle the bed shifting from one side to the other looking for a perfect place that will bring me peace. I close my eyes. But the eyeballs dance around in a frenzy recollecting words or actions that have long expired. Should-haves and Could-haves pitter patter around me like raindrops. I squirm under the pressure of ticking hour and busy schedule waiting to be executed the next day. I need rest for a fully functional body. I plan the next day, thinking of what to do, how to act And how to stop being stupid. The mistakes have been made, the consequences faced, yet why do my head throb with the embarrassment? I open my eyes and stare at the darkness Nothing but darkness. And yet my eyes search in vain For a moment of peace. To rest. For a moment. Before the rat race began again. © 2025 Mira |
